5 Steps to Develop Your Mobile App Idea

With the popularity of mobile devices and benefits people get from the mobile app development, it seems tempting to come up with something on your own. Whether you want to start something new and make your app or build an app for the existing business, it might feel a little bit confusing in the begging.  So if you’ve got an idea for an app but don’t quite know where to start, here’s an ease 5-step guide on how to develop your mobile app idea.

  1. What are your goals?

Primary things are first. You need to define, what’s that your app will do for users, how it will benefit them. If your ideas are vague and unclear, you need to take more time setting the goals for your app. It’s not enough to say: «I have an idea for an app» for it to start working. The more you specify the purposes of your app, the better it will work in the future.

It is helpful to research your target audience and figure out what it needs to fulfill that need with your mobile app. After doing several sets of brainstorm, you will see the ideas you never thought about in the first place.

  1. Do your research

Now the chances that your ideas for apps are unique are really small. There’re billions of apps out there in Google Play and App Store, so there is a possibility the app you imagined already exists. It’s great if it doesn’t! Then you can be the first one, and it will definitely give you an advantage. But it’s not the end of the world if you find out, that someone got the same idea before you did. It might give you some other valuable benefits. You can download similar apps, evaluate them, notice things you would improve and then not make the same mistakes during your mobile app development process. And if there’re apps like the one you imagined, then there’re users who want to download it! So all you need to do is to figure out, how your app will be better. Your stronger sides might be a great design, new exciting features, lower costs, etc.

  1. Create a mockup

Prototyping is the key to success. Before you start with the actual development, think about how you want your app to look like and what you want it to do so that you can create an app with incredible work performance. There’re lots of tools for prototyping (for example, Mockups and Balsamiq), but even a pen and paper will do. Start drawing from the mail page, think carefully about every button your user will press and where will it lead them. If you’re not so sure, you can do an excellent job creating wireframes, hire the UX expert. With their experience, they will give you exactly what you and your target audience need.

Having mockups is very helpful. Visualizing your ideas will structure them and show you strong and weak spots. You will get more inspiration and fresh ideas while working with wireframes. It is also needed if you decide to pitch your mobile app idea to the investors. Instead of explaining what’s that you imagined, you can show them a prototype, which will extend your chances on getting successful results.

  1. Define your business model

If you are thinking about how to develop a mobile application, it’s important to focus not only on the development side but also on the financial side. First, set your budget for the whole process. After identifying your app’s goals, it will be easier to see what kind of specialists you might need to help you bring your idea into life. Come up with the business plan, specify what you can spend on the each stage.

Another thing you should think through carefully is how your app will make money (unless you’re going for a non-profit project). There’re several models that others use. You might set a fixed price for the download, or you can release an app which is free for download but offers in-app purchases. There’re some options where your app earns money from showing adds. Each model has its pros and cons, so it’s up to you to evaluate them all and figure out which one will work better for you.

  1. Find your team

If you’re wondering how to find programmers to develop an app idea, that will do a good job, there’re several things you should keep in mind while looking. First of all, they should have an experience in mobile app development. If you’re thinking of hiring a company, take your time to look at their portfolio. If they have created apps before, download them to see whether they are easy and intuitive to use, pleasing to the eye, fast or none of these things. Then tell them about your mobile app idea. Great company will hear you and bring it to life, find the solution for problems, come up with improvements. See if you are on the same page about your future app. It’s okay if they tell you that there’re little changes you need to make, but if you’re not feeling that people you are working with understand you, it’s better to look for someone else.

The process of the mobile app development might seem complicated at first, but when you break it down to easy steps and look at them closer, you will see that it’s totally manageable. So what’s your idea for a great mobile app? Share in the comment section!
